Happy New Year!

Preferred Pet Care would like to take a moment to reflect on 2012.  2012 has been a great year and we look forward to what 2013 will bring.  We have had some staff leave to pursue their education and their dreams; we wish them the best of luck and hope everything is going well for them.  We've lost some good friends over the past year: Mack (the pug) and Mingus (Golden Retriever).  We've had our good friends move away, Lily N/M (cockapoo).  And of course we've made some new friends.  We hope 2013 will bring even more new friends.  If we haven't seen you in awhile, we'd love to see our old friends & of course we love to see our regulars.  Since we many times do not have the opportunity to thank everyone of our customers individually, thank you for a great year!  Cheers to 2013!

Happy Howlidays!

Preferred Pet Care would like to wish all of our customers a very happy holiday season!

We have been extremely busy with the holiday season.  We were booked up Christmas Eve thru today (with only a couple rooms left leading up to the New Year).  Don’t wait till the last minute, every year we book up earlier and earlier.  It’s never too early to call and schedule your pup’s boarding stay.  If you’re concerned about canceling your boarding stay due to weather, family emergency, etc don’t worry we also offer Boarding Insurance.

Boarding Insurance, what’s that?  Boarding Insurance is a flat rate (plus tax) which allows you to cancel up until 6pm the day before check in.  If the customer exercises this option PPC agrees to refund the full deposit amount and waive the cancellation fee.  This allows you to cancel for any reason what so ver.  If the boarding stay is cancelled the cost of the Boarding Insurance is forfeited, it is non-refundable and non-transferable.  The boarding insurance is not a yearly fee; it’s for each individual boarding stay.  If you have additional questions please give us a call and we would be happy to answer any questions that you might have.

As we come to the end of December we would just like to wish all of our December pups a HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Reilly P (Dec 8th), Otis (Dec 11th), Rocky R. (19th), Perri R. (Dec 20th), Abbie S (Dec 23rd), & Rufus (Dec 26th- Who celebrated his birthday with his Preferred Pet Care friends this year & loved every minute of his special day!).  For those pups who we not have mentioned remember to sign up for the birthday club, which will be officially starting as of January 2nd, 2013.  If you already signed our sign-up sheet but your pup wasn’t mentioned, don’t worry we didn’t forget about them, with the holiday season we’ve been extra busy and they will soon be entered into our database.

What’s the birthday club?  For Daycare Customers ONLY: Starting January 2nd, 2013 we will begin our “Birthday Club”.  Register your dog’s birthday & receive a free day of daycare* in their birthday month!  *Dog must have already passed Preferred Pet Care’s Trial Day; birthday club promotion is non-transferable and has no cash value.  All terms and conditions of the client service agreement dated 05/03/2012 apply.  Preferred Pet Care Inc reserves the right to discontinue the Birthday Club promotion at anytime.   In order to redeem your free day of daycare your dog must have been here within the 4 months of their birth date (must have a current daycare package).  Dogs cannot have more than 1 birthday per calendar year.  If you do not know your dog’s actual birthday (ie: if they are a shelter dog) you may make an educated guess or why not celebrate their adoption day!*

Due to the hustle and bustle of the holidays all of our dogs have been so busy playing that they haven’t had a moment to tell us about their day.  Don’t worry though next week when boarding calms down we’ve been assured by our frequent guests that they will make time in their busy schedules to tell us all about their day.  Keep posted for our next blog, “A Day in the life of a Dog”, because who knows maybe your pup will be eager to tell us all about their day!

Happy Holidays & a Happy New Year!

Don’t forget Preferred Pet Care is open with regular business hours on Monday, December 31st, and regular business hours on Wednesday January 2nd, 2013.  However, we are closed on Tuesday, January 1st, 2013- don’t worry though we will still be staffed with crew to take care of all our boarding guests.

The Night Before Christmas

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through Preferred Pet Care

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that Santa Paws soon would be there;

The dogs were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of bones danced in their heads;

And Oscar in his 'kerchief, and I in my cap,

Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the gates and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,

I knew in a moment it must be Santa Paws.

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Stanley! Now, Frodo! Now, Coco and Benji!

On, Comet! On Natalya! On, Dallas and Billy!

To the top of the porch! To the top of the wall!

Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,

With the sleigh full of bones & toys galore, and Santa Paws too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof

The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.

As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

Down the chimney Santa Paws came with a bound.

He was covered in fur from his head to his foot,

And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

A bundle of dog toys & bones he had flung on his back,

And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes -- how they twinkled! His dimples how merry!

His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

He had a broad face and a little round belly,

That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Holidays to all, and to all a good-night."

A day in the life of Comet!

Hi, my name is Comet, and I’m what you might call a mutt.  I look a little like a Basset Hound but I think I might be a mix of something else too.  I’m black and white with an all black eye that kind of looks like I’m wearing an eye patch.  Sometimes in my spare time I like to pretend I’m a pirate and go “Argg”- I’m working on my barking arrrg accent, so far it’s not working so far.  I’m a frequent daycare, boarding, and grooming customer who just started coming to Preferred Pet Care this year.  I’m so happy my parents decided that I needed some playtime.  Anyway, let me tell you all about my day today.

I arrived at Preferred Pet Care at about 9am.  I was delighted to see my buddies already waiting outside for me.  Bailey and Leo were already playing together out in the yard.  My buddies Spud and Wylie were trying to play with Gritz and Oscar.  Wilson and Buddy O were leading a chase around the yard with Pepper R close behind.  Great!  I came at the perfect time!  I decided to make my rounds.  I first decided to join in with Wilson who was running around the yard.

After making a couple loops around the yard I decided I was done with running in circles and decided to catch up with some friends.  I ran into Benji who was already telling Shania all about how sparkly his teeth are.  Benji has been on a real kick about this fancy new product called, “Tropiclean”, he really wants to be a spokes person for them.  Shania comes to daycare with her two sisters Rocky and Winnie; they’re all poodles (Shania is a miniature poodle- like Benji) and have been coming to daycare for years.  They get to ride on the taxi when they come to daycare.  Maybe one day I can go on the taxi, it sounds like fun!

I decided to go check in with Nacha and Stella who were running around like crazy.  Nacha was showing off her new winter jacket.  Nacha is a Vizsla and sometimes in the winter she gets cold, hence the jacket.  I decided to go play ball with Nacha and Stella in a play yard with Brian.  Stella didn’t want to share the tennis ball with me.  Nacha though she’s great at retrieving she brings it back and boy can she run.  I’m a little slower than Nacha, but that’s because I have little legs.  Tecumseh, Rocky S, and Layla all decided to join us for some ball play.  Layla and Rocky S. are Portuguese water dogs and they look like they could be twins.  My trick for telling them apart when they’re on the other side of the yard is that Rocky is much bigger than Layla.  After running back and forth chasing the ball I was exhausted.

Since I was tired I decided to mosey on over to Molly, who’s also a basset hound mix of some sort.  We discussed the pros and cons of having such little feet and being so low to the ground.  Waldo also joined in on our conversation.  Collective we decided the cons of being low to the ground is that sometimes our bellies get wet when it rains or snows, however, the positive points are that we’re closer to the ground so it’s easier for us to smell if there are any bones buried.

Page came over to us and told us that this Monday is Piper’s birthday.  So since Piper won’t be back in until Tuesday Page decided this would be the perfect opportunity to sing “Happy Birthday”.  Page loves to sing “Happy Birthday” and any excuse she has to sing she will come up with.  Page has already been saying how she hopes she’s coming to daycare tomorrow because she heard she missed Reilly P’s birthday this past weekend and can’t wait to sing “Happy Birthday’ to Reilly.  We all decided to join in on howling “Happy Birthday” to Piper.  I think my pitch is a little off, but Page said she will give me some voice lessons and we’ll work on that.  Maybe Page can also help me with my pirate accent.

I decided to go hang out with my new friend Pepina.  Pepina was showed off her new manicure and introduced me to her sister, a pug, Petunia.  Petunia doesn’t speak English; she’s new to Preferred Pet Care and was raised in Mexico.  Petunia isn’t a big fan of the cold weather.  Petunia just started coming this week.  I wonder if Petunia can teach me to speak Spanish.  I will have to ask Pepina to translate.  Pepina said she would love to teach me how to speak Spanish with Petunia.  Molly came over and asked if she can also learn how to speak Spanish.  Maybe Pepina and Petunia can organize a class.  What fun would that be?!

After all my playing and talking with my friends I decided it was time to take a little nap.  I strolled over into the playhouse for some shut eye.  I had a wonderful dream of a world filled with bones and tennis balls everywhere.  All my friends were there playing too.  I woke up, and realized, “Wow, if only Preferred Pet Care had bones everywhere it would be just like my dream.”  I will have to talk to Benji about how I can submit a suggestion to the people and see if they can work on that.  Benji has been coming to Preferred Pet Care for years and he always has bright ideas.  Benji suggested that I come up front and sit down with Crystal to tell her all about my day, and maybe (just maybe) if I’m lucky enough I’ll be the lucky pup for the week who gets to tell everyone about my day.  And you know what, Benji was right!  Thanks Benji for your great idea!  So here I am telling you fine people all about my fabulous day at Preferred Pet Care.  We’ll I still have a lot more playing to do before mom and dad pick me up so I have to run.  Till next time, Arrggg!

A day in the life of Bella P...

My name is Bella.  I’m a very special dog, I’m a Shih-poo, so I’m a Shih Tzu and a Poodle mixed together—basically that just translates into that I’m super adorable!  I enjoy long walks (where I am being carried of course).  I love fashion—I try to keep up with the newest trends, I LOVE coats!  And my favorite meal is Wellness Chicken Stew, that’s my absolute favorite.  When I’m not being carried around or shopping I enjoy getting my belly rubbed.  Anyone who rubs my belly is my best friend.  When I’m not shopping or being carried around I enjoy coming to Preferred Pet Care for boarding, daycare, and grooming spa services.  Every now and then a pup just needs a good Blueberry Facial.  I can just go on and on telling you about me, but what you really want to know about is how my day went.

Well I arrived to Preferred Pet Care in my usual chariot, mid-morning.  I was greeted by Daniel who checked me in for the day.  I did my usual wiggle waggle which of course resulted in a belly rub.  I was then brought outside to a yard to see my friends.  Sammy B, Pepina, and Waldo were all there waiting for me.  I have somewhat of a love affair going on with Sammy B.  However I’m not sure if I’m ready to commit.  He’s a handsome cockapoo and all but I’m still so young, I don’t know if I want to be taken off the market just yet.

Pepina is my new friend, she just started coming to Preferred Pet Care this week.  She’s a boxer/pug mix.  She has a very sad history.  Pepina was rescued from a dog fighting ring where she was used as bait.  Fortunately she was rescued and adopted and now shares her home with her sister Petunia (a pug).  Pepina was telling me all about her trials and tribulations that she has had to overcome.  She started on Monday at Preferred Pet Care and at first was extremely shy; she wasn’t too sure how she felt about all her new friends.  However each day she has been doing better and better making more and more friends.  Yesterday was her first day in the entire playgroup and since then she has been absolutely loving it here!  I’m so glad I got to meet her; I’m hoping she becomes another Preferred Pet Care daycare regular because I’d love to get to know her more.

After Pepina and I chatted at the water dish I decided to go check in with Benji.  Benji is one of Preferred Pet Care’s senior citizen guests and is a daycare regular.  Benji was telling me all about his teeth, and how he feels like a brand new dog.  Benji has been using Tropiclean Tooth Gel to help eliminate some of his plaque build up and it really has been helping.  I have definitely noticed a difference.  Benji was telling me his genius idea of how he could be Tropiclean’s spokes person and be in commercials.  I think it’s a great idea I told him he should talk it over with his dad—who knows maybe Benji could be a model.

If you haven’t noticed by now I am a little social butterfly and I love to chit-chat with all my friends.  I politely excused myself from my conversation with Benji to go see what’s been going on in the world of Kerna.  Kerna is a French bulldog, who is a fairly new big sister to 2 twins that were born this September (you may recall she was featured in an earlier blog).  Kerna was telling me all about how hard it is to be a big sister, it sounds exhausting.  Kerna told me she was concerned about the holidays coming, she’s concerned that she may not get as many presents this year or if she will have to share them with her siblings.  I told her not to worry I’m sure she will still get spoiled.  I wonder if my grandma is going to be coming up from Georgia to visit for the holidays.  My grandma (like everyone’s grandmas I’m sure) LOVES to spoil me, I have her wrapped around my little paw.  But again who could blame her, I’m simply adorable.  I think I’m her favorite.  After chatting with Kerna I decided I would like a rest and requested to be brought to a room for a break.  Marci escorted me to one of Preferred Pet Care’s suites where my own personal water dish was setup along with a nice cozy blanket.  I decided to take a quick disco nap, because after all I need my beauty sleep.

After my nap I went back out to play.  I ran into Waldo who was hanging out by the umbrella.  Waldo is a doxen mix of some sort.  He has what many may call a Napoleon complex.  He’s really a big dog in a little dog body.  I’m a little dog in a little body (J).  Waldo and I decided to play for a little.  Sammy decided to join in on the fun and we all played the chase game.  I prefer playing with the smaller dog, however every now and then I check to see what’s going on with the big dogs.  I started getting a little chilly so that meant it was time to pay a visit to Oscar.  Oscar though was in rare form today playing and running around.  Hey Oscar I’m cold, let’s snuggle.  Oscar sat down and I snuggled up next to him, it’s like sitting next to a roaring fire.  While Oscar warmed me up we discuss the weather.  We discussed if this year will be a mild winter or not.  Oscar is hoping for snow.  I however am not hoping for snow.  Don’t get me wrong I love all the accessories I can wear in the snow; I just don’t like the snow because I’m such a little dog, so I’m so low to the ground.  I had to cut my conversation with Oscar short because of my appointment with you guys to tell you all about my day.  So, I hope you enjoyed hearing about my day.  I do have to run though because I have a play date with Monty, a Corgi, who is scheduled to go home today from boarding, and I still have to rendezvous with Sammy.  I hope to tell you all about my day soon!  Choi!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW6d5W85h24 (Tiger playing with some of the other Tuffy toys).  Remember though the Tuffy Toys are not chew toys.  If you are looking specifically for a chew toy we would suggest a super durable rubber toy such as Nylabone, Kong brands, or certain VIP Products (such as their Rugged Rubber line).  Always make sure you are using the product as directed.  Additionally all dog chew toys have a certain element of risk involved.  Extra strong chewers can tear apart just about anything, even so called indestructible rubber.  With forethought and supervision, you can make your dog toys as safe as possible.

Ruby!

We would like to start out our weekly blog with HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

What do you have to be thankful for this holiday season?

Preferred Pet Care is extremely thankful for so much.  As many people have experience trying times during this difficult time with super storm Sandy we would like to thank all of our customers, and we are thankful for all of you each and every day.

We hope you and your family/friends have a wonderful holiday season!

Now back to the dogs…

Today, one of our daycare pups, Ruby a black lab decided to take a moment to tell us about her day.  Ruby is a black Labrador Retriever, who is a long time customer and has been coming for years.

Was today daycare day?  I was so confused with my days.  We lost power for TWELVE DAYS; it seemed like an eternity, and in dog years that was like 84 days.  WOW!  I was so excited when we got our power back I ran around the house jumping for joy.  The best part about power back on, that meant back to daycare with my taxi service home.  Dad called for me to get leashed up and to hop in the car, and I knew, we must be going to Preferred Pet Care!  Wonderful!

When I arrived at Preferred Pet Care Crystal checked me in and then I got my belly rubbed.  I’m a big mush, and people can’t help but give me love.  After some TLC I went out to join my friends Joe and the pups in the playgroup.  Oscar, Spud & Gritz, Faraday, Eddie, Wilson, Cecil, Ollie, Benji and Sammy, the whole usual Tuesday crew was here.  Kayla was even already waiting for me to play!  Kayla, is one of my fellow doggie taxi friends, she must be boarding at Preferred Pet Care.  I made my usual rounds saying hello to all of my friends.  Oscar was roaming around with Gritz following close behind.  Eddie was playing with Rufus (another boarding and frequent daycare pup) and Faraday, with Scout (one of my new friends, who just started coming to Preferred Pet Care) chiming in to play too.  Cecil and Ollie were playing off to the side, they are great friends.  Wilson was off playing with Watson (They’re apart of the Lab/Golden Doodle club).  Sammy was already practicing for his circus routine by jumping from post to post.  Silly Sammy.  And of course Benji was welcoming all the incoming pups and check in on how they’ve been.  Benji loves to check and see what everyone is up to.  Benji and I chit-chatted about our Thanksgiving Day plans.  Apparently Benji is quite the little Chef.  He has the whole menu planned out.  I have no clue what we are doing for Thanksgiving, I’m just hoping Dad will sneak me a little turkey.

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gifIt was an extremely interesting day at Preferred Pet Care we got to move from yard 5 to yard 3 back to yard 5 it was very exciting.  The fence company was there fixing some minor issues from Hurricane Sandy.  Thankfully Preferred Pet Care was very lucky in the storm and just had some slight fence damage.  They did a great job fixing one of the yards to make sure it was in tip top shape.

It was a very exciting day I met a lot of new and some old friends I haven't seen in awhile.  Everyone was coming to board at Preferred Pet Care because Thanksgiving was coming.  Pepper decided it would be a great idea for everyone to go around and tell everyone what they are thankful for.  Pepper started- I'm thankful for daycare at Preferred Pet Care.  Pepper is very high energy and practically comes to daycare every day.  A tired dog is a happy dog.  Next was Rocky, Winnie & Shayna after arguing about who should go first Shayna decided to speak on behalf of them and said they were thankful for all their wonderful friends at preferred pet care.  Next Lizzy said she and her brother Benny were thankful for their family and their health.  Eddie was up next, "Oh Lizzy you stole mine I'm happy for my family too.  Well I'm also thankful for all my toys and bones" he stated.  Then it was my turn. Hmm what was I thankful for?  I'm thankful for so many things all my friends at preferred pet care (both human and all fours), my family, food, my home, power, which one should I pick?  So I finally decided to go with that I'm thankful for everything.  We went around the group.  Some pups said food, their favorite toy(s), their family, their home, being adopted, power; the list went on and on.  We all realized we had a lot to be thankful for.

I had such a busy day the time just flew by.  Before I knew it Marci was calling us into Yard 2 to get leashed up to get on the taxi.  Boy what a day!  Thanks a lot for letting me tell you all about my day!  Enjoy your holiday!  And remember despite that we may give you the sad puppy eyes don't give in (too much) to table scraps on Thanksgiving.
