National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day

National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day= Friday May 8th

I’m sure all of us have experienced a natural disaster.  But what many of us don’t take into consideration is what to do about our pets.  On Friday May 8th it was National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day so if you do not already have a plan in effect here’s some points to consider.  First develop a plan.  Figure out what friends or facility would be able to care for your pet in case of an emergency.  Build a kit, include your pet’s medical records, any special foods or prescriptions.  Stay informed of the weather so you can hopefully stay ahead of the storm.  Lastly vaccinate and microchip your pet.  If you do need to board your pet or bring them to a shelter in case of a natural disaster you want to make sure that they are protected against disease.  Also if something were to happen and you are separated from your pet a microchip can help reunite you with them.
